Will the University of Colorado get approval to bulldoze the proposed Meadowlark Open Space?!
July 11, 2018 –
JUL 6, 2018 — Will the University of Colorado get approval to bulldoze the proposed Meadowlark Open Space immediately south of Boulder?
Wear a white shirt or hat and join us at the Boulder Open Space Board of Trustees Hearing Weds July 11, 6pm at Boulder City Council Chambers to help decide whether CU will be able to bulldoze the proposed open space. Will CU be allowed to build 1,000 apartments and condos in a key wetland area to increase profits and University stature?
We propose that CU build new structures on their vast existing parking lots and use underground parking. This will allow us to preserve the rich diversity of songbirds, rare butterflies and endangered plants and animals that call the Meadowlark Open Space home.
To Attend Please RSVP at: https://www.meetup.com/MeadowLarkOpenSpace/events/252491446/
As a first step to bulldozing the open space, CU is seeking approval to build massive dams to protect the planned building sites. At this hearing we can encourage the Open Space Trustees to protect the open space and add modest flood control structures that will better protect the Boulder communities downstream than high risk dams that have the potential to fail and engulf homes below.
If you can help by attending, together we can create a win for the people of Boulder and this wild and beautiful space. Let's work together to encourage CU to build on their parking lots rather than proposed open space!
MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!
WHO: Open Space Board of Trustees
WHAT: Boulder City Council Public hearing and meeting to decide on which concept to recommend to City Council for flood mitigation at CU-South. We will call on the trustees and City to study a flood control option that supports full protection of the proposed Meadowlark Open Space. It is wrong that Boulder City Council is not helping at least study protection of this area.
WHERE: Boulder City Council Chambers, Municipal Building, 1777 Broadway Street in Boulder
WHEN: Wednesday, July 11th, at 6:00 pm. To speak during the public hearing, you must sign up between 5:30 pm and 6:00 pm, so please arrive early.
Being in the audience will be a HUGE help whether you speak or not. We need to have roughly 40 open space supporters at this meeting to have a chance of winning protection.
