Steve Jones will lead a 15-mile wintering raptor survey in the Wattenberg oil and gas field in western Weld County. We’ll look at fracking operations and gravel mining along the South Platte River while also counting hawks and eagles using the same protocols used for the Boulder County Nature Association 30-year wintering raptor survey in Boulder County. Then, over lunch, we’ll look at the data and see if we can find any significant differences in proportions of various species within each area.
